Open Source Storage Announces New Open Series Servers Based on Dual-Core Intel(R) Xeon(R) Processors With New Levels of Performa

SUNNYVALE, Calif., May 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Open Source Storage, Inc., a provider of enterprise server and storage solutions for mission critical business data centers, today introduced its new open series servers based on the new Dual-Core Intel Xeon Processor 5000.

The Dual-Core Intel Xeon processor 5000 (code named "Dempsey") provides faster, energy-efficient processing capabilities for increased system performance and responsiveness, while lowering power consumption with a 95 watt per processor rating. With up to twice the performance of single-core servers, Intel's new 64-bit processors provide best-in-class performance for enterprise, web and compute intensive application servers.

New advancements in memory, power, I/O, and security, optimizing the platform for demands of multi-core processing, include up to three times the memory bandwidth and four times the capacity with new Fully Buffered DIMM technology, boosting system responsiveness for data-intensive applications and business-critical services; new dual independent buses between processors and chipset at up to 1333 MHz enhance platform throughput; the ability to do more with every system by leveraging server virtualization, now hardware-assisted with Intel Virtualization Technology, while confidently consolidating more applications on proven Intel-based servers featuring best-in-class reliability features, such as advanced memory redundancy and error checking, remote management capabilities, and backed by Intel's track record of the most widely deployed servers in the world.

Open Source Storage servers featuring even lower wattage and higher performing Dual-Core Intel Xeon processor 5100 series (codenamed 'Woodcrest') will be available starting June 26, 2006. The Dual-Core Intel Xeon processor 5100 series delivers up to three times the performance per watt and greater than two times performance over single-core Intel Xeon processors.
