Funambol and Clearwire leverage Open Source for 4G Mobile management .

In anticipation of more mainstream adoption of fourth generation of cellular wireless (4G) , Funambol is collaborating with 4G mobile broadband provider ,Clearwire on an open source mobile device management solution.

While it provides increased wireless broadband capacity for more users as compared to 2G and 3G standards, 4G has to deal with tremendous amounts of data that have to be managed without affecting performance. Funambol’s solution, consists of both mobile client and server software that renders over-the-air management of devices connected to a 4G network that includes bootstrap, provisioning, diagnostics and updates. The solution can be downloaded from the Funambol forge at http://www.funambol.org. An enhanced version which includes additional premium capabilities is also available .

Redwood City, California based Funambol is known for its mobile open source cloud sync and push email. Last year the company introduced its open source 4G mobile cloud platform for mobile devices like smartphones, e-readers and e-tablets. It syncs up mobile media over WiMax and LTE with social networks, email systems and PCs while leveraging the prevailing Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) standards.
